Phoneo auto-generated phone labels showing model, variant and price

What are stock labels and why do mobile shops use them?

A stock label is the small printed sticker on a handset or accessory showing what it is and what it costs. In a mobile shop the label does more work than it does in most retail, because a customer looking at a row of second-hand phones cannot tell the storage, the variant or the condition by looking at them.

Phoneo generates labels from the stock you have already recorded, so the model, variant and price on the sticker come from your inventory rather than being written out by hand.

Who is it for?

  • Shops displaying second-hand phones where variants look identical
  • Retailers who want a tidier, more professional counter
  • Shops with a thermal label printer
  • Owners labelling accessories as well as handsets

The problem it solves

Handwritten price stickers are slow to produce and look exactly like what they are. On a display of used phones, they also leave the customer asking a question for every device.

When a price changes, handwritten labels do not, so the sticker and the system disagree — and the customer is looking at the sticker.

Features in detail

The full workflow runs from the Labels section of your Phoneo dashboard. You choose the stock, choose how the label looks, choose what it says, and print — and because the items come from your inventory, the details on the sticker match the system.

The step-by-step guide below covers each screen with a screenshot of the actual interface.

  1. Tap the Menu (☰) button in the top-left of your Phoneo dashboard.
  2. Tap Labels in the menu.
  3. Choose the stock type tab — Used Phone, New Phone or Other — and add the items you want labels for.
  4. Tap Proceed to Create Label.
  5. Browse the label designs and choose one.
  6. Tap Size and select your sticker size (default 50 mm × 30 mm).
  7. Tap the Settings icon, choose the information to display, and tap Apply.
  8. Download the labels, or connect your label printer and print them directly.

What goes on the label

Label settings decide what the sticker actually shows. The useful combination for most shops is model, variant and price — the three things a customer would otherwise have to ask about — along with a scannable code.

A code on the label is what makes the sticker useful to you as well as to the customer: it connects the physical device on the shelf back to its record in your system.

  • Product and variant information — model, storage, colour
  • Price
  • A scannable code, such as the device's IMEI
  • Your personal website QR, so the label points to your online catalog

Label designs and sizes

Several label designs are available, and you can browse them before committing. Sticker size is set separately — the default is a 50 mm × 30 mm thermal roll, with other supported sizes selectable if your printer or display needs something different.

Printing and connecting a label printer

Labels can be printed directly to a connected label printer, or downloaded and printed later. If you are setting a thermal label printer up with Phoneo for the first time, the tutorial below walks through connecting it.
